Detailed Itinerary

 

 

Day 1

Jan 23rd 2007

 

Arrival:   Guatemala City.

Transfers to Flores, Peten.

Activities: Meet your guide at the Flores Airport and transfer to the hotel.

Hotel: La casonna de la Isla, Flores.

 

  Day 2

 

 

Tikal

Breakfast: Hotel restaurant at 9:00.

Activities: visit of the Tikal site with a local guide and afternoon to relax in the jungle or at the hotel pool.

Lunch and Diner:

Hotel: Hotel Jungle Lodge, Tikal National Park.

 

 

Day 3

 

Flight to Antigua

Breakfast: At the airport.

Activities: Early flight to Guatemala City 08:05 am. Transfer to Flores.

Hotel: Convento de Santa Catalina, Antigua.

 

 

Day 4

 

The Villages of Lake Atitlan

 

Breakfast: At your convenience.

Activities: Departure for Panajachel, Lake Atitlan.

Visit of 3 indigenous villages around the Lake Atitlan by boat (San Pedro, San Marco and Santiago). We will have a private boat to do this.

Hotel: Posada de los Volcanes.

 

Day 5

 

Totonicapan

Breakfast: 8 am

Departure for Totonicapan: 9 am

Arrival: 1 pm

Activities: walk around the villages and meet the family where we will be staying that night.

Hotel: Family Lodging. To be confirmed.

 

 

Day 6

 

Chichicastenango and the road to San Cristobal

Breakfast: In Chichicastenango

Departure for Chichi: 8 am

Departure to San Cristobal: 12 pm

Activities: Visit the Chichicastenango market and transit and border crossing from Guatemala to Mexico.

* Note: There is no other day on this schedule to visit the Chichi market and we therefore recommend visiting another local market in order to save time.  The decision can be made by you the previous day.

Diner: In San Cristobal.

**Note: Border crossing fees are not included in the price of the trip (+- 18$USD)

Day 7

 

San Cristobal and the indigenous villages

Breakfast: 8 am at the hotel

Activities: Time off to visit San Cristobal in the morning and afternoon in the villages of San Juan Chamula and Zinacantan.

 Lunch/Diner: San Cristobal

Day 8

 

The Sumidero Canyon

Breakfast: 8 am at the Hotel.

Activities: Early start to the Sumidero Canyon and free time in the afternoon to walk around San Cristobal

Day 9

 

Agua Azul, Misol-Ha et Palenque 

Breakfast:   8 am at the hotel.

Departure for Agua Azul: 9 am

Activities: On the road to Palenque with a stop at the Agua Azul cascades and the Misol-ha waterfall.

Diner: Don Mucho restaurant in Palenque.

Day 10

The Palenque Ruins

Breakfast:  8 am at the hotel

Departure for Palenque: 9 am

Activities: Visit the Palenque ruins with an archaeologist. Afternoon off to enjoy the Palenque Jungle.

Diner: Don Mucho restaurant in Palenque.

Day 11

 

Yaxchilan and Bonampak

Breakfast:  On the road

Departure for Yaxchilan: 6 am

Activities: To the ruins of Yachilan and Bonampak at the Guatemalan border... An hour boat ride on the edges of Mexico and Guatemala to the ancient ruins well hidden in the jungle.

We will then spend the night in the local community of Lacanja with the Lacandonese Indigenous people. the charming but rustic cabins are located on the edges of the Lacanja river

Day 12

The fort of Campeche

Breakfast:  On the road to Campeche

Departure for campeche: 7 am

Arrival: 4 pm

Activities: Visit the old fort of Campeche

Day 13

The ruins of Edzna and the Loltun caves

Breakfast:  7 am at the Hotel.

Departure: 8 am

Arrival in Edzna: 11 am

Activities: Visit the archeological site of Edzna and the grand caves of Loltun.

Lunch and Diner: Lunch at the caves and diner at the hotel.

Hotel: Club Med Uxmal

 

(Celestun)

 

Day 14

Uxmal and Celestun

Breakfast:  7 am at the Hotel.

visit of Uxmal: 8 am

Arrival in Celestun: 3 pm

Activities: Visit the site of Uxmal and then we will travel to the National parc of Celestun from where we will see thousands of pink flamingos living in their natural habitat.

Hotel: Maria la Gorda, Celestun.

 

Day 15

Merida

Breakfast: In Celestun at around 8am

Activities: early departure to visit the museum of anthropology of Merida. We will then check in at the hotel from where you can freely walk around the city.

Day 16

 

 

Chichen Itza

Breakfast: On the road

Departure for Chichen Itza: 6 am

Activities: Visit of Chichen Itza early in the morning to avoid the crowd.  Relax in the afternoon at the hotel near the ruins and see the music and light show in the evening.

Day 17

 

The beach

Breakfast: At your convenience

Activities: Enjoy the beaches of Playa del Carmen.  As an optional Activity you can visit the Tulum ruins and the Grand Cenote
